We all have important values and ideas, things we care about and want to share. We want to
share the tragic stories of our loved ones with you and we want to let other people know how they can join in and make
a difference.
Mission Statement: To lend support
to families who have lost loved ones at the hands of law enforcement officers. To join together strong in honor of those
who have lost their lives. To be heard and to fight the cause of the escalating rate of individuals killed by police
officers.

Shannon Smith |
P.U.P.S. was created in memory of Shannon Smith and his love for dogs.
Shannon was killed unjustifiably by Hudson, IL police officer, Jeffrey Gabor, on July 24, 2000. The police
officer was charged with 1st and 2nd degree murder, but a miscarriage of justice occurred when he was acquitted
in September of 2001. The U.S. Department of Justice is now investigating the case to determine if Jeffrey
Gabor violated Shannon Smith's civil rights. (Unfortunately, the Justice Department has since closed it's
investigation, not a big surprise!) Since Gabors' acquittal there have been two more police shootings in central Illinois,
both questionable, although no charges were filed against the officers in either case. Our three families have
joined together to speak out for our loved ones and hopefully with public support help to change some policies and
procedures in our police departments.
